Coaches body ‘backs’ Pasuwa
The National Football Coaches Association has said there is need to go beyond baying for Flames coach Kallisto Pasuwa’s head in the wake of the Flames’ continued poor performance.
The association’s chairperson Aubrey Nankhuni was reacting to calls from a section of the football fraternity for the Football Association of Malawi to fire the Zimbabwean tactician following the Malawi National Football Team’s poor showing at the Mukuru Four Nations Tournament in Botswana where they finished last without registering a win or scoring a goal in open play.

He said: “People are justified to express their disappointment with the team’s continued poor showing, but perhaps we need to do more than just scratching on the surface. Otherwise, how many coaches are we going to fire?
“Yes, maybe the coach is to blame, but that has to be proved through a thorough assessment. As coaches association, we feel there is need for a stakeholders’ meeting to brainstorm on why the team continues to struggle.”
He suggested that a meeting involving the FAM technical subcommittee, the coaches’ body and the Flames coach would be ideal.
“For instance, we fired [Mario] Marinica, but he is doing well with the Zimbabwe National Football Team which he guided to the Four Nations tourney success by winning both games [against Botwana 3-0 and Zambia 1-0],” said Nankhuni.
On the calls for his removal, Pasuwa yesterday said: “Let me not comment on that for now. I will do so at an appropriate time.”
